A professionally fitted towbar is a permanent addition to your vehicle, and there is no reason you should be replacing it every few years.
At Speedy Towbars we offer a lifetime warranty on all the towbars and wiring installations we complete. It covers them for as long as you own the vehicle, with some conditions attached.
Let’s go through what our warranty and those conditions are all about, so you know exactly what it covers and doesn’t cover.
What Does a Lifetime Towbar Warranty Mean?
A lifetime warranty doesn’t mean the towbar remains covered indefinitely when the vehicle gets sold on to new owners.
The warranty applies to the original purchaser for as long as they own the vehicle. It doesn’t transfer to a new owner when you sell.
This is consistent with the warranties offered by major towbar manufacturers like Hayman Reese and TowRite. Manufacturer lifetime warranties are also subject to conditions, like the Speedy warranty is.
Think of the warranty as a protection against defects in the materials or workmanship of the towbar, rather than damage caused by how the towbar has been used.
Speedy Covers the Towbar AND the Wiring
When Speedy Towbars supplies and fits your towbar, we also provide lifetime warranty coverage on the wiring materials and workmanship. This is what sets us apart from standard manufacturer warranties, and makes us a more sensible option than completing a DIY towbar installation.
Your wiring allows the vehicle and trailer to work together correctly, including indicators, brake lights and other trailer functions. It’s critical to safe operations. If we supply and install the complete towbar and wiring package, we stand behind the complete installation.
Which Towbar Brands Offer a Lifetime Warranty?
Speedy Towbars supplies aftermarket towbars from some of Australia’s best-known towbar brands, including:
These aftermarket towbar brands offer limited lifetime warranties on their towbars for the original owner, subject to their individual warranty terms and exclusions. The basic principle is consistent across all the manufacturers- the warranty is there to cover legitimate product faults. It won’t cover damage caused by overloading, accidents or using the towbar for something it wasn’t designed to do.
What Isn’t Covered by a Lifetime Towbar Warranty?
So what exactly isn’t covered by our lifetime warranty at Speedy Towbars? There are some common-sense limits to its coverage, including:
Towing Above Your Rated Capacity
Every towbar has a specified towing capacity, and your vehicle has its own towing limits as well.
If you exceed those limits and damage the towbar, that isn’t considered a warranty fault.
Always check your vehicle and towbar ratings before hooking up a caravan, boat, trailer or anything else you’re planning to tow.
Using Your Towbar as a Recovery Point
A standard towbar is made for towing. It isn’t automatically a rated recovery point. If you use a standard towbar for vehicle recovery and damage it in the process, the resulting damage won’t be covered under warranty.
(This doesn’t apply to products specifically built for recovery use, such as X-Bar and XR Bar recovery towbars). See the image below for a correct recovery setup.
Water Damage to the Wiring
Our lifetime coverage of the wiring doesn’t mean the electrical components are protected against damage caused by misuse or extreme conditions.
If you drive through deep water, for example, and water ingress damages the towbar electrics, that isn’t a wiring fault and wouldn’t be covered.
Accidents, Misuse and Modifications
Damage caused by an accident or misuse isn’t covered as a warranty claim. Modifying the towbar or having someone else alter or incorrectly repair the installation can also affect warranty coverage.
Does the Lifetime Warranty Cover Labour?
For a valid warranty claim on a towbar we’ve supplied and fitted, Speedy covers our applicable labour.
The towbar manufacturer covers the towbar itself according to its warranty terms, while we stand behind the work we’ve done to install it and the wiring.
It’s one of the benefits of having the complete job handled by an experienced towbar installer rather than purchasing the components separately.
Does the Warranty Apply to Mobile Towbar Installation?
Yes. There is no difference in Speedy’s lifetime warranty based on whether we install your towbar at our workshop or through our mobile towbar fitting service.
If Speedy supplies and fits the towbar and wiring, the same warranty applies.
What About the Warranty for Towbars for EVs?
Our lifetime warranty doesn’t change because you drive an electric vehicle.
If Speedy supplies and fits a towbar and wiring package to an EV, the same warranty conditions apply. The towbar and wiring are covered for as long as the original purchaser owns the vehicle, provided they’re used correctly.
As with any vehicle, you still need to follow the EV manufacturer’s towing limits and the rated capacity of the towbar fitted to it.
What Happens If Something Goes Wrong?
If you’ve had your towbar installed by Speedy and think something isn’t right, get in touch with us. We’ll establish what the problem is and whether it appears to be a warranty issue. We may need to inspect the towbar or wiring to determine the cause of the fault.
Where there is a legitimate manufacturing issue with the towbar, we’ll work through the applicable manufacturer’s warranty process. Where the problem relates to wiring we’ve supplied and installed and falls within our lifetime warranty, we’ll handle that too.
The important thing is to contact us rather than modifying or attempting to repair the installation yourself.

Lifetime Towbar Warranty FAQs
Is a lifetime towbar warranty really for life?
The limited lifetime warranty applies for as long as the original purchaser owns the vehicle, subject to the applicable warranty conditions. It doesn’t transfer to the next owner when the vehicle is sold.
Does Speedy’s lifetime warranty cover towbar wiring?
Yes. When Speedy Towbars supplies and fits your towbar and wiring, our lifetime warranty extends to the wiring for as long as you own the vehicle, provided it hasn’t been damaged through misuse.
Can I transfer the lifetime warranty when I sell my car?
No. The lifetime warranty applies to the original purchaser and isn’t transferable to a subsequent owner.
Does mobile towbar installation get the same warranty?
Yes. Speedy’s warranty applies whether we fit your towbar through our mobile service or at our workshop.
Will my towbar warranty cover damage from overloading?
No. Damage caused by exceeding the rated towing capacity isn’t considered a warranty fault. You need to operate within the specified capacities of both your vehicle and the towbar.
